My Story

ReShaping Faith™ is a riveting retelling of spiritual care encounters that changed the trajectory of my spiritual life, as well as my career path. It was within the context of these encounters that I contended with a white magic practicing witch, a White American veteran who wanted to debate me regarding his desire for the public use of the “n” word, but also the Methodist pastor who couldn’t transition until he forgave the Father for allowing the terminal illness to ravish his life, and the blind Southern Belle who gave me my wings to fly above the disappointment and despair that had emotionally disabled me.

It is through these encounters that I was reintroduced to the God of my faith, and He was very different from the God that I met on the church pews years prior. To my surprise, Christians don’t own the patent on Jesus’ love. Jesus does and He doles out His love without reservation and indiscriminately, even to those of different faiths.

In the midst of a generation that is searching for meaning and connection, ReShaping Faith™ invites you on a journey into the sacred moments that unfolded the mystery of "the holy", thereby revealing the redemptive power of love and Truth. ReShaping Faith™ offers readers a glimpse into the power of Jesus' redemptive lovingkindness and tender mercies for all of humankind.

Whether you’re curious about spiritual care, seeking to deepen your own faith, or longing for stories that touch the spirit, you’ll find encouragement and inspiration in ReShaping Faith™: One Chaplain Visit at A Time. Thank you for visiting.

About Me

I am a board-certified chaplain, certified by the Association of Professional Chaplains and endorsed by Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. I have served as a chaplain in hospice care from the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains to the gently rolling Coastal Plain of South Central Georgia, VA medical centers in Georgia and Tennessee, hospitals in Metro-Atlanta, and as a Southeast regional corporate chaplain for a Fortune 500 Company. I am an ordained minister, business owner and author. I extend my spiritual services as an independent chaplain, inspiring and providing customized spiritual care to individuals, groups, and corporate entities via my company, Boss Chaplain, LLC. I enjoy writing, refinishing furniture, developing my green thumb, and spending time in my own head. I have been married to Darrell for over 20 years. I have one daughter, Althea, and two grandchildren, Elijah and Amelia.

Education

2013-2016

Master of Divinity

McAfee School of Theology

Describing myself as spiritually narrow-minded before embarking on my seminary journey, my seminary experience expanded me in ways that I am still discovering, thereby granting me permission to take a more critical look at my faith. I began exploring my questions about the Bible narrative that I had been unwilling to confront earlier in my spiritual journey.  Like a good Father, the God of the Bible answered my questions, so don't be afraid of yours. In fact, He encourages them. Questions have a way of leading us to the Truth, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

2009-2011

Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS)

Mercer University

1991-2001

Journalism

Georgia Perimeter

Mercer University had or has a Bachelor's Degree Completion Program designed for adult learners, and it was crucial in getting me to the finish line after twenty years!

I bypassed college immediately following high school, but enrolled in junior college six years later. I was in and out of junior college for ten years before taking off another ten years to give the necessary attention to raising my daughter, as a single parent.
